THE WHITE MUD. In
this CD hadn't been used the unique sounds just Sheneb*,
but also the exclusive recording of Midditerian market in Luxor, made
by the author of this album in 1994 in Egypt. The Sheneb,
silver trumpet of Tutankhamun, was found in 1922 together with a copper
one wrapped in reeds in the burial chamber of the virtually undisturbed
tomb of the king by the English archaeologist Howard Carter. The recording
of the sound of the trumpet was made in 1939 in the Egyptian Museum
in Cairo for BBC radio. The recording is so unique because since their
discovery the trumpets have only been played on very few occasions.
Considering their fragile state of preservation, it is very unlikely
that any more attempts will ever be made again.
"Owing to its fragility, the original silver trumpet has been
played only twice, in the spring of 1939, when a modern mouthpiece
was inserted. At the first attempt, the trumpet was shattered but
it was restored immediately and survived the eventual broadcast. The
notes obtained by the military trumpeter, after the restoration, were
c, e, g and c."
From the author: This
is my second work. When I was working on this album, I was doing everything
by myself, not knowing how it would come out. The whole project is
done on the computer except for the pieces with darbuka and live sound
tracks that I collected in different countries. Special thanks to
the software that was created for giving the artist a chance to do
everything by himself without help from other humans. |
